Summary: This project consists of a new six-story cast in place concrete laboratory building with expanded basement. Main high voltage power feeder comes from an existing Co-Gen facility approx. 3,000 ft. away feeding an SF6 gas switch. The building has three 12KV unit substations, four automatic transfer switches, one 1250 KW emergency generator, two 2,000A vertical bus duct power distribution, 21 transformers and 140 panelboards. A state-of-the-art lighting control and dimming system controls interior and exterior lighting. Outstanding building tele/data system with almost unlimited provisions for expansion is tied to UCSD communication net. Fire alarm and life safety system is built to meet latest requirements of local authorities.
