The Helix Electric Story

Helix Electric has a reputation for more than just its high-profile jobs; Helix Electric is a major contributor to community organizations in the San Diego area. President and CEO Gary Shehkter’s vision was for Helix to be a company built on ‘community.’ As a result, the company is committed to giving back by volunteering material and labor to make a positive difference in the various communities that Helix calls home.

San Diego, Ronald McDonald House
A Haven for Families

Ronald McDonald House in San Diego has provided a temporary home for the families of children undergoing medical treatment at local hospitals since1980. Today, the demand is such that approximately100 families are turned away each month, forcing many to sleep in waiting rooms and dine on vending machine fare. But by March 2009, a 60,000-square-foot expansion will provide rooms to meet the demand.

Helix Electric is providing power and lighting for the project, which features 47 family-sized bed rooms — six with HEPA filtration systems to meet the needs of high-risk patients. Other aspects of the job include a commercial kitchen, recreation rooms, laundry rooms, classroom, faith room and workout facility. Helix employees, along with other members of the construction team, will be volunteering their services on Saturdays as an in-kind donation to the non-profit organization.
